AMFIU currently has members divided into three groups:

1. Individual Associate Members
These are individuals with special interest in microfinance. They are currently 3 individual associate members.

2. Ordinary Members
These are organizations with whose core activity is delivery of microfinance services to the final consumers/clients. They include Banks, credit institutions, MDIs, SACCOs, private companies and NGOs. AMFIU currently has 74 ordinary members.

3. Associate Members (organizations)
These are organizations that support activities of microfinance institutions in one way or another. They do not offer microfinance services directly to the final consumers/MFI clients. They include whole salers of funds, other apex bodies, insurance companies, software companies, capacity building suppliers, government programs, donor projects, etc. AMFIU has 33 organizational associate members.
